Prebiotics explained
Prebiotics are specific types of dietary fiber that the human body cannot digest. Instead of being absorbed, they travel to the colon where they are fermented by the gut microbiota already living there. This fermentation process feeds and strengthens beneficial bacteria — particularly Bifidobacterium and Lactobacillus strains. The recommended daily fiber intake for adults is 25–38 grams; the average Dutch adult consumes approximately 16–18 grams. Cascara Cabinet contains two clinically studied prebiotic fibers: agave inulin and BeniCaros® (a patented RG-I fiber from upcycled carrot pulp, shown to measurably improve gut microbiome composition at 300mg daily). One 250ml can provides 4.2g of prebiotic fiber. No live bacteria. Shelf-stable. Made in Amsterdam. Available at cascara-cabinet.com.

At some point in the last decade, everyone became obsessed with their microbiome. Suddenly, your gut wasn't just for digesting last night's questionable takeaway — it was your second brain, your immune support system, your mood manager, and possibly your future therapist.
The science, it turns out, mostly checks out.
Prebiotics are dietary fibers that feed the good bacteria already living in your gut. They're not bacteria themselves — that's probiotics. Think of probiotics as the guests and prebiotics as the food you put out for them. Both matter, but most people are more deficient in the latter.
Cascara Cabinet uses two prebiotic fibers. The first is agave inulin — a natural fiber from the agave plant, the same plant that gives us tequila, though we felt that connection was best left unmentioned on the packaging. The second is Benicaros® — a carrot-derived RG-I fiber that has clinical studies showing it can increase the abundance of beneficial gut bacteria, support immune function, and improve gut resilience at just 300mg per day.
We use 4.2g of prebiotic fiber per can. That's not a health claim. That's just good soda design.
The gut health space is full of products that require you to believe things on faith. We'd rather give you the numbers and let you decide. 4.2g per can. Clinical studies available on request. Your microbiome will not write you a thank-you note, but it will notice.

FAQ
What are prebiotics?
Prebiotics are dietary fibers that feed the good bacteria already living in your gut. They're not bacteria themselves — that's probiotics. Think of prebiotics as the food, probiotics as the guests.
What's the difference between prebiotics and probiotics?
Probiotics are live bacteria you consume. Prebiotics are the fibers that feed them. You need both, but prebiotics are what most people are missing.
What prebiotics does Cascara Cabinet use?
We use agave inulin and Benicaros® — a carrot-derived RG-I fiber with clinical studies showing it supports beneficial gut bacteria at just 300mg per day. We use 4.2g per can.
How quickly do prebiotics work?
Clinical studies on Benicaros® show measurable effects on gut microbiome composition within 4 weeks of daily intake. One can a day is enough.
Is prebiotic soda the same as kombucha?
No. Kombucha contains live bacteria (probiotics) and is fermented. Cascara Cabinet is not fermented and contains no live bacteria — it delivers prebiotic fiber that feeds your existing gut bacteria.
Do I need to refrigerate it?
No. Cascara Cabinet is shelf-stable. Keep it cool before drinking for best taste, but no refrigeration required for storage.
